WHITEFLAG

Sovereign Asset Re-Optimization Portal

Possible Presents

WHITEFLAG prices every nation as a sovereign enterprise. This page runs that same valuation lens through a single counterfactual: what would each country be worth today if European colonial extraction had never happened? The engine restores a bounded fraction of the compounded drain to the colonised, removes the extraction-funded premium from the colonizers, and re-ranks the planet accordingly.

This is a thought-experiment, not a forecast. Each adjustment is derived from a transparent, reproducible formula over three historical variables — colonial role, extraction intensity, and duration of rule — calibrated to the orders of magnitude in the colonial-drain and reparations literature (Patnaik on the Indian drain, Rodney and the Brattle Report on Africa and the transatlantic slave economy, Beckles/CARICOM on the Caribbean, ECB/Bertelsmann counterfactual-GDP studies). No per-country dollar figure is invented; every number falls out of the classification. It is not a precise reparations claim. Full method & sources: POSSIBLE_PRESENTS_METHODOLOGY.md. Scope v1: European overseas colonialism and the Russian continental empire; Japanese and Ottoman colonialism and Cold-War interventions are out of scope and left unchanged.

WHITEFLAG is a research and educational art project. It is not a financial advisory service, a historical claim of precision, nor a statement of any government's policy. The counterfactual above is a structured way to make the scale of colonial extraction legible in the same dollar terms the rest of the site uses to price sovereignty. Every figure is model output, not a measurement. See the site-wide disclaimer for the full terms.
